Extrinsics

Extrinsics is the process of letting each camera know its location relative to the other cameras.

• You will calibrate extrinsics:
  • Any time a camera gets bumped or moved.
  • Any time you recalibrate intrinsics
  • Any time the skeleton seems to be having trouble latching on or staying on subjects

1. In DARI Capture, click the ‘CALIBRATE’ tab on the left
2. Click the ‘Extrinsics’ tab on the right
3. Click ‘Capture Calibration Board’
4. Extrinsically calibrate the system by holding the board horizontally at a 45° angle toward the cameras and slowly move it around the center of the system
5. Watch the dots turn from red to green as you cover more area of the capture space
6. Collect enough Boards so that all of the dots turn green and all cameras have collected at least 40 in the ‘# of Boards’ column
7. Click ‘Stop Capturing Calibration Board’
8. Click ‘Calibrate Extrinsics’
9. Wait for the calculations to complete. The grayed out buttons will return to normal and a reconstruction error will appear when complete.
10. Ensure both the Reconstruction Error and each camera’s error is yellow or green in color.
11. If it is red, click the ‘clear’ button and repeat steps 3-10
12. Prompted to ‘Set Floor’
13. Place the board flat on the ground in the middle of the capture space where the subjects will stand with the blue square to the back right of the system
14. Click ‘Set Floor’
15. Ensure the coordinate axis has appeared and looks correct

*Note: At the completion of a full calibration the calibration can be saved for future use:

1. In Capture, navigate to "Tools" in the top menu bar
2. Click "Calibration" in the drop down
3. Click "Load Calibration" to load a previously saved calibration or "Save Calibration" to save the current calibration
   • Save calibrations into the dari/home directory and name it the date of the calibration to easily tell how recent the calibration is from

This is only to be used when the calibration has been saved recently and you are positive nothing has chanced with the camera configurations.
